Our Story

Bay Haven Care Community is proud to be a family-owned and operated retirement living and long-term care home, serving the Collingwood community with compassion, integrity, and excellence for more than 50 years.

Our story began in 1969 when the Strandholt family purchased a small nursing home in Collingwood. With a strong belief in providing individualized, resident-focused care, the family set out to create a place where seniors would feel supported, respected, and truly at home. Their dedication to quality care and deep roots in the community quickly established Bay Haven as a trusted name in senior living.

As the needs of the Collingwood community grew, so did Bay Haven. In 1986, the Retirement Home was added, expanding our services to offer comfortable, supportive retirement living alongside long-term care. This addition allowed us to serve a broader range of seniors while maintaining the same personalized approach that has always defined Bay Haven’s philosophy.

Continuing our commitment to growth and innovation, in 2007, we introduced our Retirement Home Suites – thoughtfully designed, spacious accommodations featuring large windows and convenient kitchenettes. These suites were created to provide residents with enhanced comfort, independence, and a bright, welcoming living environment.

Today, Bay Haven Care Community remains one of Collingwood’s most respected retirement and long-term care homes. While our buildings and services have evolved over the decades, our core values have remained the same: compassionate care, strong leadership, and a commitment to treating every resident like family.

Our success is built on the strength of our experienced leadership team, dedicated staff members, and caring volunteers, all of whom work together to create a safe, engaging, and supportive environment. We are honoured that so many residents are proud to call Bay Haven home.

Bay Haven Care Community is a proud member of the Ontario Long-Term Care Association (OLTCA) and the Ontario Retirement Communities Association (ORCA). We are currently licensed for 45 long-term care beds, as well as 45 retirement beds, and continue to uphold the highest standards in both retirement living and long-term care services

From our early beginning to the vibrant community we are today, Bay Haven’s history reflects a legacy of growth, dedication, and unwavering commitment to the seniors of Collingwood – a legacy we are proud to continue for generations to come.
